Course duration: 10 evenings online

The program aims to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain an innovation management infrastructure within the organizations they are part of. Those who successfully complete the program will gain the expertise to manage innovation in any company, regardless of its industry or size.

The training content covers the main components of innovation management, such as strategy, organization, operations, culture, processes, methods, and tools, in a holistic and Integrated manner. All components will be conveyed through different case studies, showcasing both successful and unsuccessful examples. The program will also apply a “learning by doing” model through workshops on end-to-end innovation mapping andbusiness model design.

The programme is held fully online via MS Teams in Central European Time, with all sessions lasting 90 minutes and being recorded. Minimum 60 % attendance is required. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive certificates from the Prague University of Economics and Business. Certificates will be presented during the final session at the university’s main campus. For those unable to attend in person, certificates will be mailed.

Module details

Session 1: Fundamentals of Corporate Innovation

This session covers the fundamentals of innovation-based entrepreneurship within a corporatecontext, commonly referred to as intrapreneurship. We will begin by differentiatinginnovation from similar concepts such as invention, R&D, creativity, and discovery. Next, wewill explore various types of innovation—including product, process, marketing, andorganizational innovation—using real-life examples and best practices. Additionally, we willdiscuss how to choose the most suitable type of innovation, taking into account both internaland external factors such as customer needs, company strategies, market trends, andcompetitiveness.

Session 2: Strategic Innovation Management 

In this session, we aim to connect innovation efforts with corporate strategies. To achieve this, we will discuss the principles of strategic innovation management. We will begin by exploring strategic thinking, followed by a detailed look at competitive and growth strategies. Additionally, we will cover radical versus disruptive innovations, helping participants understand how to formulate an innovation strategy and determine which strategy to pursue under different conditions.

 Session 3: Innovation Strategies

 This session will specify five different innovation strategies and compare them based on their degree of newness and pricing. We will explore when and under what circumstances to choose each strategy, as well as how to implement the selected one.

Session 4: From Ideas to Opportunities

In this interactive session, participants will explore practical tools and frameworks for generating innovative business ideas and critically evaluating their potential as real-world opportunities. Drawing on entrepreneurial research and real case examples, the session blends individual creativity with structured analysis to help you identify, shape, and assess ideas with market and impact potential. Whether you're launching a venture or driving innovation within an organization, you’ll leave with actionable insights to sharpen your entrepreneurial thinking.

Session 5: Components of InnovationManagement: Strategy, Organizationand Culture

This session focuses on the practical aspects of establishing an innovation department within an organization. Participants will gain insight into the role of the innovation manager and the structure of the innovation team, including detailed job descriptions and responsibilities. Session 6: Components of InnovationManagement: Operations and Processes

This session covers the design and management of innovation processes. Participants will learn about different innovation processes, how to create process lists and tracking cards, and the use of process models and maps. The course includes practical exercises using tools such as Visio to design process guides and ensure effective process management. The session also discusses various operational models for innovation departments and their integration into the broader organizational chart. Session 7: High Impact Innovation Methods and Models: Jobs to be Done

This key session will introduce to the most effective innovation methods and tools. The focus will be on the Jobs-to-Be-Done framework and the Blue Ocean Strategy. Combining with the following session, we will integrate these two methods to achieve breakthrough innovations. Participants will learn how to apply these methods to identify customer needs and create unique value propositions that differentiate their products or services in the market. Since understanding customer needs is arguably the most critical step in the innovation process, the session will begin with this topic. We will then discuss how to design experimental innovations and explo re h ow to blend services and experiences with products.

Session 8: High Impact Innovation Methods and Models: Blue Ocean Strategy

The aim of this session is to demonstrate how to create niche markets using the Blue Ocean Strategy. Participants will learn how to transform existing products into new offerings that capture value and meet the needs of noncustomers. The session will also showcase how to increase value while keeping costs affordable, through various cas e s tudies and best practices from different industries.

Session 9: Business Model Design

This session focuses on designing business models. Participants will gain knowledge about the key components of a business model, value proposition design, revenue streams, and partnerships. The session will provide a comprehensive understanding of lean startup and help participants cr ea te and develop business models of their corporate startups.

Session 10: New Trends in Innovation Management

The final session of the program will explore how emerging trends and technologies are reshaping innovation management. For example, the adoption of AI in the innovation process is significantly influencing innovation outcomes. Additionally, digital business models, super apps, circular economies, and sustainable innovation are becoming increasingly important on corporate agendas. In this session, future innovation managers will learn about these emerging trends and gain the knowledge needed to build their project portfolios.


Course lecturers

Ferhat Demir, Ph.D., MBA

Dr. Ferhat Demir earned his MBA from Kennesaw State University in the United States and his Ph.D. in Management and Managerial Economics from the Prague University of Economics and Business where he now works as a full-time faculty member at the Department of Entrepreneurship. He conducts research in innovation management, open innovation, corporate-startup collaboration, strategic management, and corporate entrepreneurship that has been published in leading journals such as R&D Management and Review of Managerial Science.
